The space risks insurance sector provides coverage for small cube satellites to big GEO satellites and large satellite constellations covering Launch liability, physical satellite launch, and satellites in orbit.

The Group also provides the Union with up to date information on trends, statistics and global developments in the Satellite Operator and Space Insurance markets.

2018 Plenary Session

The SRSG followed the GASG on the Tuesday morning in Tokyo, with their session running up until the lunch break. Jan Schmidt (in his final session as the Space Risk Study Group Chair) introduced proceedings before handing over to Takato Hayashi who gave a presentation on the Japanese Space Industry and its insurance.

Chris Kunstadter then stood in for Rob Schenone, in giving the Space Market Overview and Statistical Update (Rob had unfortunately been taken ill just prior to the event and had been able to travel to Japan).

Stephane Rives and Jon Lewis then gave a joint presentation on the changing stable of launch vehicles, and the insurance implications for each of these. This was followed by another join presentation (Pascal Lecointe/David Wade) on the subject of the underwriting challenges posed by "New Space".

The session finished with the usual space risks Q & A between panellists and Delegates.

At the close of the Tokyo AGM Pascal Lecointe took over the role of SRSG Chair from Jan.
